ABOUT THE EVENT:

We will be returning to New Street Square (off Fleet Street) curating three mid-week Christmas markets this December following a similar run of markets for the past three years. New Street Square is a development in the city surrounded by offices and food and drink outlets. The Fleet Street BID (Business Improvement District) would like to bring a Christmas market to office workers in the square to enable them to engage with festive events and shopping as there are limited small business retail options in the immediate area. Last year, events included carol singers, artificial snow and entertainment. We expect the same interactions plus a wider knowledge of the market’s presence as this is our fourth iteration.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• Each market will have 12 traders and will be highly curated and we will be focusing on traders that have a commercial edge and we feel will sit well for the target audience.

• We are particularly interested in hearing from traders that can offer men’s gifts.

• Original work which is either handmade by you or produced in the UK on a small scale using your original designs

• Handmade products that are particularly giftable and appropriate to Christmas.

• The markets have a modern aesthetic so consider if your brand has the crafty feel we are looking for - you will find plenty of examples of traders and products at our market on our Facebook and Instagram pages

• Our events are curated to ensure a balanced mix of traders that will appeal to our audience. We will do our best to spread the opportunity to as many selected traders as possible.

• We do NOT accept food or drink vendors, vintage traders or re-sellers

KEY INFORMATION ABOUT THE VENUE, MARKET AND PRICING: 

When: 2nd, 3rd and 4th December, 11.30am - 6pm

Where: The Fleet Street Quarter, New Street Square, London, EC4A 3BF. This quarter has been developed for city workers and includes offices, food and drink outlets.

Timings: Set up from 10.30am, market open from 11.30am-6pm.

About the Area: Fleet Street Quarter is a major new Business Improvement District established in February 2022. Encompassing an area which features Fleet Street at its heart, but embracing fascinating areas such as Chancery Lane, Holborn, Ludgate Hill and New Street Square, the Fleet Street Quarter aspires to shape the whole area into a thriving place to live, work, and visit. New Street Square is a vibrant public square that attracts considerable footfall, predominantly from workers and business owners in the area. Owned by Landsec, New Street Square already hosts regular food markets so we know the infrastructure for it can work.

About the Market: The market will be outdoor, and stalls placed in New Street Square. The stalls will include an individual ‘igloo-style’ gazebo to protect traders from the weather with a table and chair inside. Please be aware, the square can be quite windy. We have been advised there may be heating available within the igloos. There will be an indoor space to get warm, take breaks and access the toilet, alongside, hot drinks provided from local vendors surrounding the square. There will be additional lighting installed to light your stalls.

This will be our fourth time hosting the event. With this in mind, Crafty Fox Market is responsible for the operations and curation of the market but are not adding our branding to the event. Fleet Street BID are responsible for the promotion of the market, and we will send on digital flyers once we have them to support you to promote to your audiences.

Without guarantees of this being run under our brand, we will be offering trading slots to members free of charge and to non-members for £25. We will ask each trader to give a £50 deposit which will be returned following the market in full to members and £25 to non-members as long as traders attend on the day for the duration of the market’s trading hours.

Transport: The closest overground station is City Thameslink or London Blackfriars, which is also only a few minutes walk. The closest underground station is Chancery Lane, on the Central Line, from there it is a 6 minute walk. The District and Circle line runs a short distance to the south served by Temple and Blackfriars stations.

Unloading / parking: Loading bay behind the site, traders will need to find their own parking. We will provide suggestions of car parks in the trader information but these will come with costs attached. Please note you will be in the Congestion Charge zone.

Why trade: This will be an exciting opportunity to trade and reach a new audience at a key retail time.

Footfall and visitors: The major businesses in the area are Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Framestore, Mizuho Bank, Bird and Bird, Leonardo St Pauls (Jury’s Inn), Taylor Wessing, Just Eat, Baring Investment and Charles Russell Speechlys amongst many more. Collectively, a rough estimate of the number of employees that these businesses employ sits at around 16,600.

Things to consider:

• The market is fully outdoors and susceptible to weather conditions.

• There are likely to be peaks (lunchtime) and lulls (mid-afternoon) in footfall throughout the day.

• This is not being delivered under the Crafty Fox Market brand.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON OUR CANCELLATION POLICY

As a small business ourselves, we spend a significant amount of time negotiating with a venue, securing trading dates, managing the applications for a market and curating the event and we can find ourselves in a tricky situation in the event of a cancellation.

If your application is successful, we will ask you to secure the slot with a refundable deposit of £50. If subsequently you do not attend on the day or do not trade for the duration of the trading hours, your deposit will be forfeited.
