We pride ourselves on supporting and promoting local businesses with a focus on quality. Each event is carefully curated to ensure an exciting and balanced mix of vintage/flea sellers, local artists and local food and drink producers.
Even though our applications are always open, we do book the majority of our calendar of markets at the start of the year. So please apply for all of the dates you think you'd like to attend now.
2026 PRICING:
FLEA(vintage & antiques):
£50 for a pitch
Council gazebo included 3m x 3m
No tables are provided.
AFFORDABLE ART:  
£40 for a pitch

Covered, approx 2m x 3m using our a-boards as main display. No large tables allowed.

LOCAL PRODUCE/MAKERS:  
£40 with your OWN gazebo, 3m x 3m max
No tables are provided.
Your gazebo must be heavyweight, pop-up and not self-assembly - preferably with a hex frame - suitable for high winds and rain. You must use weights.
**If you sell alcohol, you will need to provide your own TEN licence**
OVERSIZED eg Trailers, Horseboxes, Vehicles:
£50 per pitch - electricity is available on the square.

CATEGORIES TO APPLY FOR:

Please read through these carefully before applying to ensure your products/business fits in to one of our areas:
 
FLEA:  Quality, second-hand goods: vintage, antiques, retro, kitsch, collectibles, old books, second-hand vinyl, architectural salvage, oddities, curiosities and rarities, preloved vintage clothing (not fast fashion). Well loved vintage items that have been repurposed/ given a new lease of life may be considered.
AFFORDABLE ART:  2D art mediums including painting, drawing, photography, illustration, print making, textiles and anything that can be displayed flat on one of our a-boards/browser. This ensures we have our own unique offering as well as giving local artists a dedicated platform to showcase their work.
LOCAL PRODUCE/MAKERS: Locally grown, or locally handmade/produced food and drink items. (within 30 miles of the Square) Skincare, fragrance and dining related items will be accepted such as candles, food boards, hand creams and soaps, wax wraps etc. We will also accept selected artisan makers eg, jewellery, clothing, and other crafts.
 
HOT FOOD:  Meals/snacks prepared to consume in situ on the market. e.g. sourdough pizzas, curries, burgers, toasties, noodles, pancakes etc.
THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND WHEN APPLYING:
 
> If you are successful, the majority of my communication with you will be via email. Please make sure you are able to check the email address you provide me with regularly to ensure you don't miss important updates, payment reminders and market info. Our market thrives on good communication, and as you can imagine, it can be frustrating to work with businesses that don't respond.
> If you don't have an online presence, please ensure you have uploaded some images of the products that you'd like to sell, or you can email them to [email protected]. If we do not receive these, we cannot process your application and it will be declined.
> Payment is required to secure your place at each market. This must arrive by 30 days before the market you are attending or your pitch may be passed on to someone on our reserve list. If you cancel within 30 days or less, and you haven't yet paid, the part or full pitch fee will still be owed, and must be paid before you will be able to trade with us again.
TO TRADE YOU WILL NEED:
 
> Public Liability Insurance 
If this is new to you, then there are plenty of affordable options and if you're successful, we can help point you in the right direction.  For the art section, this starts from as little as £2.50/month with someone like axisweb or a-n.  Food, drink and Flea options are available for around £70 for the year.
> Local Produce and Hot Food only:
If applicable to your business, you will have to provide all the up to date paperwork to comply with council and food trading standards e.g. basic hygiene certification, gas safety, PAT tested equipment. Power is available on the square and requires a 16 amp to 13 amp adapter.

Terms and Conditions

TERMS & CONDITIONS OF TRADING WITH US IN 2026 - BEDFORD

SUMMARY FOR BEDFORD
  • The majority of my communication with you will be via email. Please make sure you are checking the email address you provide me with regularly to ensure you don't miss important updates, payment reminders and market info.

  • Payment is required to secure your place at each market. This must arrive by 30 days before the market you are attending or your pitch may be passed on to someone on our reserve list (full details in the payment section below) If you cancel within 30 days or less, and you haven't yet paid, the part or full pitch fee will still be owed, and must be paid before you will be able to trade with us again.

  • Stallholders are responsible for their own space and must staff their pitch at all times.

  • You must provide your own, pop-up, heavy duty gazebo only if you are in the Local Produce section (unless otherwise arranged such as bringing a food trailer)

  • No table is included in the booking fee, you must provide your own display set up

  • Any signage, props and products need to be secure

  • You cannot trade without public liability insurance. All stallholders will need to send us proof of their public liability insurance. This year, we will require this to be at a minimum of £5,000,000 (most insurance companies have this as standard).  If your insurance is still carried over from last year, and may run out before the first market, please still send across. We will then ask you for your updated certificate after your renewal date.

FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR BEDFORD

Payment of Fees/refunds:

1. Payment is due for each market by one month before each market you are attending. e.g. payment for 12 April market is due by 12 March. Failure to pay on time may result in your place being given to another stallholder on the waiting list, and repeat late payments may result in you being blacklisted from the market. We understand times are hard and we can be flexible, so if you need more time to make a payment, you need to let us know in advance. We know life gets extremely busy and things slip our minds but prompt payment is appreciated.

2. Cancellation terms: stallholders will be refunded 100% of their total pitch fee if they cancel their booking 31 days or more before a market date, 50% of their total pitch fee if they cancel their booking between 15 - 30 days prior to a market date. No refunds will be given in the event of cancellation less than 14 days before a market. If you cancel within 30 days or less, and you haven't yet paid, the part or full pitch fee will still be owed, and must be paid before you will be able to trade with us again.

3. If the market has to be cancelled for safety reasons outside of our control, such as in the event of extreme weather conditions, we the organisers will need to retain £15 per stallholder to cover the administrative and running costs of the market.

General Terms and Conditions

1. Stalls can be set up from 7.30am on the day of each market. The event will be open to the public from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Each stallholder undertakes to have exhibits on display in the allocated space throughout the advertised hours of the event.

2. Stallholders must take responsibility for health and safety and abide by the appropriate regulations and codes of practice. Use of electric heaters is strictly prohibited as these are dangerous to use outdoors.

3. It is the responsibility of individual stallholders to ensure that all wires and cables that are trip hazards are covered with matting or taped securely - failure to do so may mean you are requested to remove them.

4. If you are unable to attend the event, you must let the event organiser(s) know as soon as possible before the event so the layout can be adjusted accordingly.

5. The organiser(s) will put in place all reasonable plans to ensure that the event goes ahead as advertised. However, we cannot be held responsible for events which are outside our control which lead to a change in, or cancellation of the event. In the unlikely event of cancellation (eg extreme weather conditions) owing to circumstances beyond our control, we will issue as partial refund as explained in the payment terms section above.

6. The stallholder acknowledges that the council owns the site, permanent and temporary structures that are on loan and that the property must be treated with respect.

7. The organiser(s) retain the right to turn away or remove any stallholder which it finds to be selling or displaying item that are not in keeping with the spirit of the market, or that are different to the style and type of items listed on the stallholder’s application forms.

8.  All gazebos and equipment used must be strong and secure enough to endure high winds, rain and difficult weather conditions. Products and stock on stalls must be displayed securely to prevent injury and damage.

9. All gazebos must be weighted down securely using the industry recommended weight and type.

10. The stallholder is wholly responsible for all hygiene practices, the correct labelling of product as per legal standards, and the handling and safety of their own equipment to ensure there is no risk to the general public.

General Requirements for stallholders

Stallholders shall:

1. Be responsible for the provision of their own public liability insurance for a minimum of £5,000,000 indemnity cover. Cover should include if relevant; the selling of food, sealed alcohol and the use of, and the securing of your own gazebo, goods for sale and display equipment.

2. Participate in the event entirely at their own risk in every respect and shall indemnify the organiser(s) from liability for personal injury, loss or damage to property by their own actions or omissions to the maximum extent permitted by law.

3. Provide and operate at his/her own expense the stall together with all equipment necessary for the efficient running of the stall and the provision of the specified services.

4. At all times observe and comply in all respects with the statutory requirements, rules and regulations and bylaws (including those laid down by the council’s environmental health and safety team, the fire brigade or other competent authority, and those made by the council and organiser(s) for the management of the site) relating to the outlet and its use. If the stallholder is in any doubt as to the scope of this term, he/she should contact the organiser(s) for further explanation.

5. Be solely liable for and indemnify the event organiser(s) against all loss, damage, claims or demands (other than for any death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the Council, the organiser(s) or any of its employees or agents), which may have been caused directly or indirectly by the stallholder, their equipment and stock, or his/her employees or agents.

7. Where required, please provide details of last Environmental Health inspection and the authority who conducted it and basic food hygiene certification.

8. Where required, please provide a gas safety certificate, risk assessment and show proof of PAT testing for any equipment used.

9. Keep the allocated space clean and tidy and clear of rubbish during the event. Before leaving the venue at the end of the event the stallholder shall ensure the allocated space has been tided and cleared of rubbish and is free from all the stallholder’s belongings, goods and equipment. Loss of goods and belongings are the responsibility of stallholder if left behind as the site is unsecured.

10. Will only use their allocated pitch space provided to hang up any signs, notices or sell their goods.

11. Ensure that any goods or services sold or displayed do not pose a potential risk of fire or any other hazard. Replica weapons, guns, pornographic content, cigarettes etc are not permitted to be sold at the event, any stallholder found selling such items will be asked to leave.

12. Permit the council’s duty authorised officers to enter and inspect the stall at any time during the event, particularly in terms of environmental health.

13. The sale of alcohol under the provision of “off sales” is permitted only if you have informed us that you are planning to sell alcohol.  Sellers of alcohol must have a TENS (Temporary events notice) in place in order to trade at the market, copies of which must be provided to the event organiser(s) 7 days before the market date. If you are found to be selling alcohol on your stall without prior agreement, you will be asked to leave.

14. The use of audio equipment is prohibited, unless an arrangement has been made prior to the market.

15. Ensure safe driving, loading and unloading of goods using only the Bedford Borough loading bays and St. Paul’s Square areas requested by the event organiser(s).

Food Hygiene certification:

Required for all stallholders handling and selling food and drink products - please include a copy of your basic food hygiene certificate (skincare will need separate certification).

As a food and drink supplier, the council may visit to carry out an inspection without any prior notification to inspect food operation, the management of food hygiene and to check that the business is complying with food hygiene laws.
